What the HELL is it that makes trump a “populist?” That he appeals to the basest racism lurking in the nation’s psyche? the “Archie Bunker” myth? that he and the rest of the plutocrats think working people, Black and White, are as dumb as rocks and will fall for ANY damn charlatan?
Populism was the movement in the late 1890s in America of farmers and workers fighting to stop the domination of our government from the corporate behemoths of that time, the Carnegies, Vanderbilts, and Rockefellers that controlled our economy and our government, to the determent of workers and farmers. Now, any appeal to racist ignorance is called “populism,” with the idea that low-income people of all persuasions are gullible and stupid, and will follow any racist Pied Piper to the abyss.
