On Friday, Philadelphia PA became the FIRST US municipality to be designated a World Heritage City, right along side of Jerusalem, Prague, St. Petersburg, and Paris. This is due to the historically significant sites in the city, like Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were drawn up. The city’s officials are looking at this as a way to showcase the city, drawing in businesses and tourist dollars. I would like to see ALL the city, the neighborhoods and not just Center City, benefit from this; it is the people in the city’s neighborhoods that create the heritage of the city.
