In response to the question you guys answered earlier about movie suggestions- I’m interested in Jewish-y/biblical films.

Hello! Here are some classic Jewish films that everyone should see! These are some of  this admin’s favorite movies!  (Click each film for the trailers)

“Yentl” with Barbara Streisand (A musical about a woman who wants to learn how to study in a man’s world. It’s great for all of those musical buffs, great for anyone into feminist movies, and of course has the beautiful prayer elements!

“Fiddler on the Roof” with Topol (A musical about main character Tevye’s encounter with modernity through his children. Tevye represents age-old tradition of Eastern Europe and his five daughters represent several factors of the Jewish Enlightenment in Europe. This is fantastic for anyone into musicals, comedies, anyone into feminist movies and also has those beautiful prayer elements.

“Frisco Kid” with Gene Wilder and Harrison Ford (This is the classic Jewish Western! The film follows a Polish Rabbi’s journey across the Wild West to San Fransisco to his pulpit to meet his future wife! This is a hysterical film with “Willy Wonka” and “Han Solo”— great for any age!

“History of the World: Part 1” by and with Mel Brooks (This is a classic comedy film from Mel Brooks— a comedic genius. He uses “Borscht Belt Comedy” (ie. classic Jewish humor) to parody various time periods of history from the dawn of man, elements of the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament, the Inquisition, the French Revolution and much more! This is a fantastic for anyone who loves crude (and not so crude) humor! Personally, I wouldn’t show this to anyone who hasn’t been Bar or Bat Mitzvah’ed yet tho!
