Daddy Socialism

Our politics has been dominated by rich white guys who, at some point in their lives, drew upon their affluent family’s money and connections to get out of some difficulty. I’m thinking of Dan Quayle and George W. Bush, who used their father’s connections to evade the Viet Nam war; and topping this list is Donald Trump, who used his father’s money to get him into the Wharton School and out of the Viet Nam draft, either on college deferments or a podiatrist all of a sudden finding “bone spurs” on Trump. On top of that, Trump’s father’s money heavily subsidized Donald’s casino business, which eentually went bankrupt. (Bankrupt a casino, where customers give you money and expect nothing in return? Trump is no financial whizard.)

I have made up a term for this-“Daddy Socialism,” whereby some rich kid gets into a jam-like getting a girl pregnant, wrecking the car, or was caught with drugs-the old man’s money and connections are there to pay off officials and bail the kid out. Such resources are not available to working and low-income people, or people of color, who catch the brunt of the “law” if they get in trouble.

Men like Trump, who never had to face the consequences of their deeds, have no place running the government, which they would treat as their own personal toy for themselves and their rich buddies. SO, let’s come together to preserve our democracy and VOTE this November 5.
